Global Contacts, The Visa Centre, Unitech, and Escape Holidays are a group of companies that are independently operated and owned by the same Directorate. Our management team has entrepreneurial flair but we lacked a the right structure, processes and systems to forecast, budget, set goals, and review the business performance on an ongoing basis. In addition to the inadequacies of robust process and systems, the management structure was largely based on adhoc hire and fire and resulted in placement of staff that either were unsuitable or mismatched with their job description.
A preliminary discussion with Treasurex in October 2010 revealed that a whole range of issues needed to be addressed. The problem with SME sector is no different to large scale corporations. Resistance to change is and will always be a challenge but the dynamics in a small business can have a far greater impact on the key stakeholders when the culture begins to change.
